Becky grew up in Nottinghamshire and took part in the DofE Awards as part of Guides and Venture Scouts. She had always been a keen horserider, walker and swimmer when she went to university in Bangor, North Wales to study Zoology and discovered rock climbing. During university Becky spent a lot of time walking and climbing throughout North Wales and afterwards headed to New Zealand to work on farms and go walking. On her return from New Zealand, Becky started work as an outdoor instructor in Delphi, Ireland, before undertaking a PGCE and working at a school in Pembrokeshire for 10 years teaching biology, chemistry and maths.

Still with a great passion for rock climbing, Becky moved to the Peak District in 2009 and took up fell running, winning the 10 Peaks race in the Lake District in 2010. Any free time that Becky has is spent climbing, running with her springer spaniel or taking photographs.

A few questions for Becky...

Favourite location for DofE expeditions?

Bronze - The Pembrokeshire coast path: amazing scenery, good paths, nice campsites.

Silver - Preseli Mountains - a mountainous feel with the comfort of being low level...challenging enough!

Gold - Wicklow Mountains - a great sense of isolation, you can walk for four days and not see another person and have amazing spots to wild camp.

What is the best thing about being on expedition?

Being self-sufficient and star gazing without light pollution.

What is the worst thing about being on expedition?

Wet socks.

What would we find in your rucksack that we really shouldn't?!

A pair of rock shoes for climbing (just in case....!).
