Richard Banks

     - Summer Mountain Leader Award

     - DofE Accredited Assessor for all DofE Awards

     - Holder of Bronze, Silver & Gold DofE Awards

Richard has a strong background in DofE, having completed the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards himself at school. After leaving school, Richard wanted to maintain his links with the Award and began helping out with Bronze expedition - he has been involved with DofE ever since! Richard has been involved with some fantastic DofE expeditions over the years - two of his most memorable and challenging expeditions include a boating expedition for disabled members and a sea kayaking expedition for a group of Gold Award girls who were looking for an alternative to walking for their expedition.

In his spare time, Richard enjoys sea kayaking - paddling out in search of seals around Anglesey or the coast of Scotland and Winter walking in the sun in Spain. More locally, Richard can be found handing out cups of tea to instructors with his lovely camper van while on expedition!

A few questions for Richard...

Favourite locations for DofE expeditions?

Bronze - The Rivington area (between Bolton and Wigan) with lots of historical buildings and ruins to see.

Silver - The Yorkshire Dales as they're remote but without too many big hills!

Gold - The Lake District as the scenery is so stunning.

What is the best thing about being on expedition?

Seeing participants bond into teams and achieve success.

What is the worst thing about being on expedition?

That fine rain that gets you wet through sneakily...

What would we find in your rucksack that we really shouldn't?!

A folding umbrella!!
