A busy weekend saw teams joining us for ITC Outdoor First Aid Courses, rock climbing and a bit of both - all with a great dose of sunshine between the showers. Looking forward to welcoming our first aid students back for their Gold DofE programmes in a few weeks.

A few pictures from our time in Snowdonia over the past couple of weeks. We have completed four expedition programmes in Snowdonia over the past couple of weeks and to call the weather a 'mixed bag' might be a bit of an understatement! The pictures below show a fair amount of sunshine but drying boots by the fire probably shows a little of what the weather threw at us all.. a big congratulations to all teams who 'battened down the hatches' and finished their expeditions both smiling and having learnt a whole new range of kit drying techniques while on expedition! Hopefully the weather will be kinder over the next couple of weeks with a large Open Gold programme getting underway yesterday and further teams starting this morning.
Cooking in some sunshine...
Starting the boot drying process...
Toasty socks and boots - watch they don't get too close!
What a sight to behold...these three ladies braved the warm showers this weekend and still managed to keep the tidiest tent porch that we have ever come across on expedition. Nice one!
This July, we have teams heading to the Tatra Mountains with the Adventure Expeditions team for their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Qualifying Expedition.
For all of our expeditions, an extensive recce is undertaken and overseas expeditions are no exception. Therefore, International Mountain Leaders (IMLs) Cat and Andy headed out to Poland to recce the routes and plan logistics for the up-coming expeditions. It’s fair to say this was no chore!
Poland and, in particular the Tatra mountains, are fantastic places to explore. Friendly locals, great ice cream, beautiful remote mountain huts and exciting walking routes make it a great destination for international DofE expeditions - not to mention the local cheese and abundance of 'Gelaterias' selling some amazing ice cream. The chance to spend a day or two on expedition in Slovakia just over the border is a great way of exploring the mountains and gives a good option for some of our teams who want to look at more challenging routes.
Each of our overseas trips are tailor-made according to what the school would like and in the case of our July expeditions, the school have wisely opted to spend a day in Krakow before coming home. It’s definitely somewhere to add to the 'must-visit' list if you like seeing culturally & architecturally interesting cities - It’s a friendly place that’s steeped in history and full of restaurants offering hearty local dishes - we've found some local restaurants that can't fail to please for end of expedition celebrations as well.
Really looking forward to seeing what the young people get out of the experience in July and to further exploring and wildlife in Poland.
Krakow's beautiful main square - perfect for exploring!
