Success on DofE Open Expedition in the Cairngorms

Mon 15th Aug 2011

Completing a DofE Expedition in the Cairngorms is bound to be a unique experience, whether you are exploring the glens that were once a hive of activity, or walking on the high mountain tops.  There are some truly wild spots giving some excellent campsites.  It is a beautiful and remote area that will inevitably have an impact on you and your group.

This week was no exception.  Our open group came together, never having met before, to achieve a common goal – to complete their Gold DofE Expedition.  Mentored and supervised by Mountain Leader Chris Bryant, the group not only achieved their goal, but went away having learnt more about themselves and each other.

The group planned a route starting in Kinguissie going into Glen Feshie, through Glenmore Forest and over Meall a Buchaille to finish in Aviemore on day 4.  This route took into account all of the abilities and attitudes ensuring that as a team they would complete the expedition.

It wasn’t always easy for them, but because they persevered through the tough bits it was incredibly rewarding.  Chris commented at the end of a long hard day “Team were all buzzing after their day – really proud of themselves”.

Well done to Catriona, Kirsty, Abdul, Nick, Peter, Vishal and Max.  We wish you all the best and hope that your DofE Expedition has provided you with an experience that will prove beneficial to you in the future.
