Outdoor Activities and Qualifications (future outdoor instructor development)

  • Mon 10th – Sun 16th July 2017, Outdoor Activities and Qualifications
    (future outdoor instructor development), Peak District -Successfully completedClimbing

This residential is based in the heart of the Peak District National Park and sets an exciting itinerary for young people who are interested in the outdoors - whether that is developing their own skills for future adventures or thinking of a career as an outdoor instructor. The course is run by experienced Mountaineering Instructors who have many years of delivering courses in the outdoors at the highest level and believe that fun, quality training can inspire young people for many years to come. The itinerary has been deliberately set with both enjoyment and the quality of the experience gained in mind. Over the seven days we incorporate a range of activities including the following:

  • Introduction to Mountain Leadership;                  • National Navigation Award Scheme;
  • ITC certified outdoor first aid training;                 • Mountain Biking;
  • Rock climbing;                                                           • Abseiling;
  • Weaselling;                                                                 • A Tyrolean Traverse;
  • Bushcraft and Outdoor Land Management with The National Trust.

During the residential, the emphasis is on skill development and learning so at the end of the week, participants can walk away with not only some certificates for their CVs, but skills to begin their
Mountain-Bikingwn independent adventures and experience to build on for the future. We sit down with everyone at the beginning of the residential to ascertain their own goals and wishes for the week and build this into the itinerary to make things as tailored as possible to individuals. Accommodation is in a local bunkhouse with the cost including breakfasts, evening meals and packed lunches each day, hire of all equipment, qualified, experienced and friendly instructors. This week is all about fun in the outdoors so be ready to be inspired!

Arran is one of the most southerly Scottish islands and measures just 19 miles long and 10 miles wide. It has pretty villages along the coastline, a rugged and mountainous interior and green rolling hills with woodland in the South. While feeling stunningly remote it is easily accessed from Glasgow, with Glasgow Central railway station being our meeting point for the trip.

Itinerary - Combined Residential & Expedition : 2017 - £625.00 - Book Now

11th –  16th August 2017, Residential; followed by  16th – 22nd August 2017, Expedition
                                                                                                                                                      -Fully Booked

The aim of the residential is to explore Arran, it's landscape, wildlife and coastline and fulfil the requirements of the John Muir Discovery Award. We will spend one or two days undertaking conservation work with the Arran Rangers around the island and another day or two on outdoor activities including walking and scrambling, all of which will allow us to explore the area. We will also make sure that we leave sufficient time to go in search of local wildlife including seals, basking sharks, dolphins, otters, red deer, ponies, puffins, eagles and over 200 different species of birds...not bad!! Our local experts know when and where it is best to find wildlife so that we have the best chance of doing some spotting - make sure you bring your camera! The expedition will allow you to explore the island further - there are few DofE expedition locations as rugged stunning as Arran.
