We offer an open silver package which allows you to complete all of the expedition section for the silver award.  This is ideal if you don’t have a group to do your expedition with or can’t make your schools dates.

Location

We run our Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award programmes in the White Peak near the town of Buxton or the Hope Valley area of the Dark Peak.  This is an ideal location for Silver expeditions and is easily accesible - only half an hour from the M6.  We use a different part of the same area for both the practice and qualifying expeditions. What's Included?

  • Pre-expedition information pack with all you need to know about your expedition, including detailed information on how to get to the venue and a complete kit list. This pack can be accessed online through our Members Login area - we provide you with details when you book;

  • Bunkhouse accommodation or full campsite facilities with inside planning space for the first night of your qualifying expedition, providing you with a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere to prepare for your expedition;

  • Camping fees for the entire programme;

  • Free use of group equipment. We will provide you with high quality, light weight tents perfect for the expedition you are about to undertake. We also provide gas Trangia stoves, first aid kits, maps, and group shelters to help you warm up on blustery days on the hill;

  • Comprehensive training covering all aspects of the DofE syllabus;;

  • Supervision throughout the expedition;

  • Accredited Assessors for the qualifying expedition, who will help you feel relaxed and encourage you towards completing your expedition;

  • A CD combining all of your groups' photographs at the end of your expedition. A great memento of your expedition to take home.

You need to arrange

  • Transport to and from the expedition. We give you advice on the easiest way to get to the start of your expedition, including travelling by public transport;

  • Personal equipment, but you will have access to a  comprehensive kit list in our Members Area to give you guidance on what you need and discounts on any kit that you require;

  • You will need to bring money to buy your expedition food.  Part of the training will involve going to the supermarket to buy food with the guidance of your instructor and so there is no need to shop beforehand.
